The nearest galaxy to ours, Andromeda, is located at a distance of 2.52 million years from us. The Milky Way and Andromeda are moving towards each other at tremendous speeds (the speed of Andromeda is 300 km/s, and the Milky Way is 552 km/s). Scientists are sure that they will collide in 2.5-3 billion years. 🧙‍♂ 👩 #Fact ⚡ #Daily ⚡ #Space Subscribe

Starquakes on the edge of reality The surface of a magnetar is not a calm crust, but an unstable shell that cracks under internal magnetic stress. When the magnetic field shifts, it triggers a "starquake" of colossal power. The released energy blasts streams of gamma radiation into space, capable of ionizing planetary atmospheres dozens of light-years away. The magnetic energy here is so immense that it literally warps the fabric of space itself. #gammarays #magnetar #catastrophe

Italian priest and astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi discovered a small planet in 1801. And he named this object Ceres, in honor of the goddess of fertility. Ceres is the largest object from the Main Asteroid Belt, until 2006 Ceres was classified as an asteroid, now it is included in the list of dwarf planets. 🧙‍♂ 👩 #Fact ⚡ #Daily ⚡ #Space Subscribe

The universe as a fine-tuned mechanism If we visualize the early universe's state as a point in phase space, it landed in a region so vanishingly small compared to the total volume that it defies standard explanation. This wasn't chance; it was an architectural design of nature. The mathematical probability of such a start approaches zero, making our existence a near-impossible event. This fine-tuned entropy is the only thing separating our dynamic, star-filled world from a static cloud of gas. We exist in the gap between zero and infinite chaos. #science #cosmology #structure

What are Centaurs in astronomy? The space between the giant planets is not empty: icy objects known as centaurs, they rotate in elliptical, often inclined orbits in the space between the solar side of Saturn and the area just beyond Neptune. The first object of this class discovered was Chiron, an asteroid with a diameter of 218 km. It is believed that centaurs came from the Kuiper belt, located beyond Neptune. 🧙‍♂ 👩 #Fact ⚡ #Daily ⚡ #Space Subscribe
