Google has officially launched a 24-hour mandatory wait period for these installations, effectively locking your ability to run unauthorized code behind a significant time barrier. This mechanism is part of a broader security push, following data from the Global Anti-Scam Alliance in 2025 showing that 57% of adults encountered a scam, leading to massive global losses. The new "advanced flow" requires several high-friction steps before the installer will even consider letting you proceed: ▪️ Enabling developer mode through the classic build number sequence. ▪️ Confirming that no external party is coercing you into disabling protections. ▪️ Restarting your device to apply the new state. ▪️ Waiting for the 24-hour security timer to expire. Rollout began in August 2026, and you should expect this to be fully enforced across the ecosystem by 2027. While this change targets casual users to prevent mass-market scams, it explicitly leaves ADB-based installs exempt.
